Terms, Privacy and Legal Information

Last updated: 17 August 2026

1. About this page

This page explains the terms on which you may use the SideCountry website, how we handle personal information, and the ownership and permitted use of material published through SideCountry.

In this page, “SideCountry”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to SideCountry, a trading name of Rural and Outdoor Solutions.

By using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the website.

2. Using the website

You may use this website for lawful, personal and non-commercial purposes. You must not:

  • use the website in a way that breaks any applicable law;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, its server or any connected system;
  • introduce viruses, malicious code or other harmful material;
  • scrape, harvest or systematically extract content or data without permission;
  • impersonate another person or misrepresent your connection with SideCountry; or
  • use SideCountry content, branding or services in a misleading, defamatory or unlawful way.

We may restrict or withdraw access to all or part of the website where reasonably necessary, including for maintenance, security or misuse.

3. Editorial content and individual opinions

SideCountry publishes podcasts, films, articles, reviews and other work by a range of presenters, writers, guests and contributors.

Opinions, claims and experiences expressed by an individual are their own. They do not necessarily represent the views of SideCountry, Rural and Outdoor Solutions, another contributor, a programme sponsor or any organisation with which a contributor may be associated.

We may edit material for length, clarity, accuracy, presentation or legal and editorial reasons. Publication does not amount to our endorsement of every statement made within it.

We aim to act responsibly and correct material errors. Requests for a correction, clarification or right of reply may be sent to hello@sidecountry.co.uk. We will consider each request on its merits, but cannot guarantee that material will be amended or removed.

4. Information, outdoor activities and reliance

SideCountry content is provided for general information, education and entertainment. Although we take reasonable care over what we publish, we do not guarantee that every item is complete, current or suitable for a particular person, place or situation.

Some content may discuss outdoor activities, navigation, wild food, fishing, shooting, hunting, land management, tools, equipment, cooking, wildlife or other activities involving inherent risk. Conditions, laws, permissions and accepted practice can change. You remain responsible for assessing risk, checking current rules, obtaining any necessary permission, using suitable equipment and seeking competent instruction or professional advice where appropriate.

Nothing on this website should be treated as a substitute for medical, legal, financial, veterinary or other regulated professional advice.

5. Copyright and intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the rights and goodwill associated with the SideCountry name, its show titles, branding, visual identity, programme formats, website, commissioned material and overall presentation belong to Rural and Outdoor Solutions or are used under licence.

Individual creators retain copyright and other applicable rights in their original contributions, including written work, photography, artwork and original spoken contributions, unless a separate written agreement says otherwise. Publishing a contribution through SideCountry does not by itself transfer the creator’s ownership to SideCountry.

Separate rights may exist in a finished podcast, film or other production, including rights in the recording, edit, music, artwork, graphics and compilation. Those rights may belong to SideCountry, a producer, an individual creator or another licensor, as indicated or agreed in the relevant production arrangements.

You may:

  • view, listen to or download material where we expressly provide that facility for personal use;
  • share links to SideCountry pages and publicly available episodes; and
  • quote limited extracts where permitted by law, with fair and accurate attribution.

You may not reproduce, republish, sell, license, adapt, distribute, broadcast or commercially exploit substantial parts of our content without the permission of the relevant rights holder. Permission to use one element does not grant permission to use another.

If you believe material on SideCountry infringes your copyright or other rights, email hello@sidecountry.co.uk with your contact details, the material concerned, its location on the website, the basis of your claim and any supporting information.

6. Reviews, sponsorship and commercial relationships

SideCountry may publish reviews, sponsored material, affiliate links, advertisements or work made with commercial partners. Where a commercial relationship is material to the content, we will aim to identify it clearly.

Receiving payment, products, access or other support does not automatically determine the editorial opinion expressed. Reviews and recommendations remain matters of editorial judgement, but they are not guarantees that a product or service will suit you.

If you follow an affiliate link and make a purchase, SideCountry may receive a commission without increasing the price you pay.

7. Patreon, memberships and payments

Where we offer memberships or paid support through Patreon, the membership account and payment transaction are handled by Patreon and its payment providers, not directly by SideCountry. Your use of Patreon is governed by Patreon’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

SideCountry may receive limited information from Patreon about members and their membership, such as a name, email address, membership tier, entitlement and payment status. We use this information only as reasonably necessary to administer membership benefits, provide access to relevant content, communicate about the membership and meet our legal obligations.

We do not receive or store your full payment-card details. Cancellations, payment failures, billing questions and refunds may need to be dealt with through Patreon under the terms applying to the transaction.

Membership benefits, prices and availability may change. Any important additional terms will be shown when a membership or paid benefit is offered. Nothing in this section affects rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK consumer law.

8. External links and embedded services

The website may link to or display content from third-party services, including podcast, video, social-media, membership and retail platforms. These services are controlled by their respective providers and may have their own terms, privacy policies and cookie practices.

Following a link or loading embedded content may allow the third party to receive technical information about your visit. We are not responsible for the availability, security or content of third-party websites, and a link does not necessarily amount to an endorsement.

9. Privacy notice

Information we may collect

Depending on how you use SideCountry, we may collect:

  • your name, email address and the contents of messages sent through our contact form or by email;
  • information you provide when submitting a pitch, complaint, correction, enquiry or contribution;
  • newsletter preferences and subscription records where you choose to join a mailing list;
  • membership and entitlement information supplied through Patreon where membership features are connected;
  • technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, referring page, requested pages, dates and times; and
  • cookie choices and information generated through cookies, embedded media and similar technologies.

Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for the matter you are contacting us about.

How and why we use information

We may use personal information to:

  • respond to enquiries and correspondence;
  • assess pitches, submissions, complaints and correction requests;
  • operate, secure, maintain and improve the website;
  • administer memberships and access to restricted content;
  • send newsletters or marketing where you have requested them or where otherwise permitted by law;
  • maintain records of permissions, licences and editorial decisions;
  • prevent misuse, investigate security issues and protect our legal rights; and
  • comply with legal, regulatory, tax and accounting obligations.

Our lawful basis will depend on the use concerned. We generally rely on consent, performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, or our legitimate interests in operating and protecting SideCountry, managing relationships, publishing editorial work and responding to correspondence. Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider the effect on the people concerned.

Who receives information

We may share personal information where reasonably necessary with trusted providers supporting our website, hosting, email, forms, analytics, security, newsletter, podcast, video or membership services. These may include our website host and, where relevant, WordPress service providers, embedded-media platforms and Patreon.

We may also disclose information to professional advisers, regulators, law-enforcement bodies, courts or other parties where required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.

We do not sell personal information.

Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we will use an appropriate lawful mechanism or rely on another permitted basis for the transfer.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including legal, accounting, security and editorial-record requirements.

Routine enquiries will normally be retained for no longer than two years after the matter is closed. Records connected with contracts, payments, complaints, disputes, permissions or legal obligations may be retained for longer, commonly up to six years or for another period required by law. Mailing-list information is normally kept until you unsubscribe or the list is discontinued. Technical logs and cookie information are retained according to operational need and the settings of the relevant service.

Your rights

Subject to the circumstances and exemptions provided by law, you may have the right to:

  • ask for access to your personal information;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • ask us to erase information;
  • ask us to restrict how information is used;
  • object to certain uses of information;
  • receive certain information in a portable format; and
  • withdraw consent where we rely on consent.

To exercise a right or ask a privacy question, email hello@sidecountry.co.uk. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

The website may use cookies and similar technologies that are:

  • strictly necessary, for security, basic website operation, access control and remembering privacy choices; or
  • optional, for analytics, embedded audio or video, social-media features and other third-party functions.

Where consent is required, optional technologies should not be used until you make a choice through the website’s cookie controls. You can change or withdraw your choice through those controls or your browser settings, although blocking some technologies may prevent embedded players or other features from working.

Third-party audio and video players may set or read cookies and collect technical information when loaded. Their own privacy notices explain how they use that information.

As the services used by SideCountry develop, more detailed information about individual cookies, providers and durations may be supplied through the cookie-control panel or a separate cookie notice.

11. Email and marketing

If you subscribe to a newsletter or other marketing, we will use your details for that purpose and provide a way to unsubscribe in each marketing message. Withdrawing from marketing will not prevent us from sending non-marketing communications that are necessary for a transaction, membership, enquiry or legal matter.

Agreeing to this privacy notice is not the same as agreeing to receive marketing.

12. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information and the website. No internet service or method of electronic storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access or absolute security.

You are responsible for protecting your own devices, accounts and passwords when accessing SideCountry or linked services.

13. Website availability and liability

We may change, suspend or remove content or features without notice. We do not guarantee that the website will always be available, uninterrupted, accurate or free from bugs or harmful code.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SideCountry and Rural and Outdoor Solutions will not be liable for loss or damage arising solely from reliance on general editorial content, the unavailability of the website, or the use of a third-party website or service.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing in these terms affects any statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

14. Changes to this page

We may update this page to reflect changes to the website, our services, the organisations operating SideCountry or applicable law. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. Material changes may also be brought to your attention elsewhere on the website where appropriate.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, except where applicable consumer law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
